High tea and awards at Bodega Bay Grange
The tiny sandwiches were dainty – especially the cucumber ones. The petit fours were pretty – especially the pink ones. The tea was fragrant – especially the jasmine. It was a high tea fit for a queen, but it was for Bodega Bay’s veteran grangers who have served their community for over 50 years.
Even the California Grange Master Bob McFarland was there to pay tribute to Alvina Leveque, David Rhodes, Elsie Wedel, Harold Ames, Shirley Ames, Glenice Carpenter, Rosemarie Fomasi and Ann Valena. The founding members of the country’s only fishing grange – “farmers of the sea” – were awarded the Golden Sheaf Award for their hard work.
In addition to the grangers being honored, six students were awarded Grange scholarships. Bodega Bay Grange raises funds for the scholarships with its annual crab feed and cabaret show. The scholarship recipients are Abigal Esquivias, Jonathan Gutierrez, Christa Nygard, Courtney Nygard, Maggie Petersen and Raelynne Talafili.
