The tallships are here

Sunday, March 3rd, 2013 | Posted by

The Lady Washington and the Hawaiian Chieftain are back at Spud Point in Bodega Bay.  The two tallships took the entire county by storm last year when they showed up for the 200th anniversary of Bodega Bay.

They are open to the public April 3-7.  Rancho Bodega Historical Society is coordinating volunteers to “walk the plank”, or escort groups down the docks at Spud Point to the ships, for public viewing.  The public viewing times are Wednesday through Friday, 4 to 5 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The public can possibly book a two-hour evening sail on April 3, 6 or 7, and there are three-hour “battle sails” on Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. although many of the “sails” are booked up according to the Hawaiian Chieftain. Last year crowds thronged the coast to watch the two vessels battle gracefully in full sail as they fired cannons at one another.

Tickets for the sails can be purchased online at historicalseaport.org.
