The Natural World – tulip trees
March is a magic time in the west county. Not only are fields filled with wild mustard in bloom, the acacia trees in flower, but in the towns the tulip trees burst in showy pink blossom. For those seeing them the first time it can be confusing. “Are those tulips on that tree?”
The tulip tree around here is apparently Magnolia X soulangiana. Another tree called a tulip tree is Liriodendron tulipifera and is also called a yellow poplar. It has yellow flowers and grows taller than our popular pink flowered tree.
Bu whatever name, enjoy the spring color it provides.
