The List: 3 places to spend a rainy Saturday

Monday, February 4th, 2013 | Posted by | 4 responses

Three places to spend a rainy Saturday afternoon.

1 – Sebastopol Library at the corner of Bodega Ave. And High St. The newly remodeled library offers computers galore. A community jig saw puzzle to work on, and, believe it or not, sometimes Saturday entertainment. Visiting gardeners, singers and musicians use the meeting room as a venue for their shows sometimes on Saturday afternoons. And then there are comfy chairs for settling in for a good read. And it’s all free.

2-Pony Espresso Coffee Shop next to Bill’s Farm Basket at 10315 Bodega Highway between Sebastopol and Freestone. For the price of a cup of good joe Debbie Martinez and her husband and Jim offer a cozy spot where you discuss politics, religion and that most controversial of subjects, the weather, with the locals. If you are feeling at all down prepare to spill all your troubles onto Mama Debbie, who has nurtured just about everyone in the west county.

3- The Rialto Theater at 6868 McKinley St, Sebastopol. Even if you have seen all the blockbusters, the Rialto always has some interesting offbeat films or some old classics you have yet to see. There are matinee specials for $7.50. There are café tables and chairs in the lobby and rumor has it that the Rialto may offer “small plate” tapas in the future. If they could only get a beer and wine license it would be the perfect date spot as well as a great way to ease one’s way through a rainy afternoon.

  1. Here are 3 places IN BODEGA BAY to spend a rainy afternoon:

1 – Visiting the art gallaries – Bodega Heritage Gallery, Ren Brown Gallery, Locals Art Gallery and Bodega Landmark Gallery (in Bodega)

2 – The deck at Gourmet au Bay or fireside at The Duck Club

3 – Jim’s Roadhouse Coffee Shop Coffee Cove or Colleen’s Coffee Shop (in Bodega)

  2. Yes, I agree except for the deck because you’d get wet in the rain.

  3. Andrea, the deck at Gourmet au Bay is enclosed and heated. You should stop in sometime and check it out!

  4. Oh, cool. I will!
