Contest for writers

Do you have a strong attraction to pens, pencils and keyboards? Then you may be an aspiring writer. Redwood Writers, a group of writers helping writers would like to find you.

The group has announced it is holding four writing contests for 2013, in the genres of playwriting, memoir, fiction and poetry. Contests are open to residents of Sonoma, Napa, Mendocino, Marin, Lake and Sonoma counties. Cash prizes will be awarded, and winning entrants will be invited to the club for recognition, in addition to having their pieces published in a commemorative leaflet and on the club’s website. The Playwriting Contest for 10-Minute Short Plays has a deadline for submissions of Feb. 1, 2013. Winning plays will be produced in coordination with the 6th Street Playhouse at the Third Annual Redwood Writers Play Festival June 28-30, 2013.

The Memoir Contest has a deadline for submission of June 15, 2013. Awards will be made at the August 2013 general membership meeting.

The Fiction Contest has a deadline for submission of July 15, 2013. Awards will be made at the September 2013 general membership meeting.

The Poetry Contest has a deadline for submission of Aug. 15, 2013. Awards will be made at the October 2013 general membership meeting.
