56th annual firefighters picnic in Occi

Occidental Firefighters Association is holding its 56^th annual annual picnic and barbecue noon to 6 p.m.  Sunday July 15. The all-day festivities will be at the Union Hotel Picnic Grove that is less than a mile from town, an easy walk, and given parking limitations, lots of people do make the hike. There will be music, dancing, games, raffles, and of course, the firefighters will be cooking up their famous barbecued chicken and tri tip. There will also be barbecued oysters on sale along with beer and wine. There are special children’s activities. The California Cowboys are providing music this year.  The money raised goes for new equipment and training for Occidental Volunteer Fire Department.
