This Week May 28 – June 3

Tuesday (5/29) Jazz Duality will play at Aubergine in Sebastopol for free. Oli Fraenkle on the keys and Steven A. Hoffman on bass will start playing at 7:30 p.m. Aubergine is at 755 Petaluma Ave. in Sebastopol.

It’s Open Mic Night at Hopmonk Tavern Tuesday (5/29) at 7 p.m. and it’s free. Hopmonk is at 230 Petaluma Ave., Sebastopol.

Wednesday (5/30) it’s open mic night with Micheal Lindner at Aubergine starting at 6 p.m. Aubergine is at 755 Petaluma Ave. in Sebastopol.

Thursday (5/31) it’s the economy, stupid. Actually, it’s the economy you brainy types. The Science Buzz Café hears about “The Financial Economy: Friend & Foe”. It happens at 7 p.m. at the French Garden Restaurant, 8050 Bodega Ave. in Sebastopol. $4 and if you need more information go to www.sciencebuzzcafe.org

On Friday (6/1) from 4 p.m. to dusk the Certified Farmers Market in Occidental opens its new season. There will be music, food, and the bounty from local farmers for all right on Main St. next to Bohemian Highway.

Hey, put your hoe down for a few hours. The First Friday Live musical gathering on June 1 is a Hoe Down at the Sebastopol Community Cultural Center with the Country All Stars. Doors open at 7 p.m. $10 at the door, $5 for under 18. Doors open at 6 p.m. for a chance to eat some award winning barbecue from Bar BQ Smokehouse Bistro. The center is at 290 Morris St. in Sebastopol.

Friday (6/1) Diego’s Umbrella, a Gypsy rock group comes to Hopmonk Tavern at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door. Go to www.hopmonk.com to order tickets online. Hopmonk is at 230 Petaluma Ave.,Sebastopol.

June 2 one of Sonoma County’s favorite bands, Uncle Wiggly, comes to Aubergine to play for its favorite audience. You can start dancing at 9:30 p.m. for $10. It’s at 755 Petaluma Ave., Sebastopol. Go to aubergineafterdark.com for more information.

Saturday (6/1) and Sunday (6/2) it’s annual Art at the Source self tour time. Just pick up a map at the Sebastopol Center for the Arts at 6780 Depot St. or at any studio with the signs in front and follow the maps to open studios all over the West County from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.. Spring flowers and fine art – what’s not to like?

Sunday (6/3) at 7 p.m. is the night for the North Bay Poetry Slam. There are three rounds, three minutes per round, and three winners. It all happens at Hopmonk Tavern, tickets $5 at the door. Hopmonk is at 230 Petaluma Ave, Sebastopol.

Sunday (6/3) at 4 p.m. Occidental Center for the Arts will launch two books: Jodi Hottel, author of Heart Mountain and Kathleen Winter author of Nostalgia for the Criminal Past will be signing and reading from their poetry books. Free and there will be refreshments available, wine and beer for sale. Occidental Center for the Arts is at 3850 Doris Murphy Court in Occidental.
