National Trails Day at the coast
Landpaths, a Sonoma County non-profit organization that seeks to protect the wild outdoors and make it accessible to the public, is celebrating national Trails Day this weekend on June 2, by offering up some great hikes and a workday to clear trails.
Volunteers to clear trails in the Willow Creek area will meet in Occidental at 9 a.m. next to the Community Center by the tennis courts and will carpool from there to the work site. Bring gloves, water and a lunch. RSVP at landpaths.org. The workday lasts until 2 p.m. and volunteers will get passes to return to the preserve on their own.
The Jenner Headlands hike is four to five miles long and is strenuous with 800 foot ascents. It is for experienced hikers and space is limited, so hikers must register at www.landpaths.org. The reward is hikers will get to know this 5,630 acre piece of coastal wilderness intimately.
