Annual spring plant sale at OAEC

Monday, April 9th, 2012 | Posted by | no responses

This weekend you can visit the Mother Garden and buy some of her baby plants ay Occidental Arts and Ecology Center. The Mother Garden, an eight acre paradise of organic plants that has been lovingly tended for almost 40 years shares some of her bounty each spring when OAEC opens its gates for a plant sale. Hundreds of open-pollinated, heirloom and rare varieties – all California Certified Organic – many started from OAEC’s own seed collection will be offered. All have been trialed, tasted, and savored for years in the demonstration gardens and kitchen at OAEC. This sale features early spring crops such as lettuces and greens, peas, brassicas, chards, onions, leeks, flowers, and herbs. There are also limited selections of tomatoes. At the next sale in May there will be 170 varieties of tomatoes. A list of plants for sale can be seen at www.oaec.org.

In addition this weekend there will be tours of OAEC at 2 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday.
