The Petaluma City Council on Monday will consider whether to move ahead with the long-planned Rainier Avenue crosstown connector.

The council will review an agreement with the Sonoma County Transportation Authority on the design of the structure, which would be built under Highway 101 as Caltrans continues its widening of the freeway.

The transportation board approved the plan Dec. 13.

The council already has approved spending almost $500,000 on the design for the framework for the undercrossing, which has to be planned before Caltrans completes its freeway widening.
