North coast celebrating wine and mushrooms

The north coast is going all out to celebrate wine and mushrooms. Mendocino County claims it is home to 3000 species of mushrooms, 500 of them edible, so from Nov. 5 to Nov. 12 it is exploring fungi.

On Nov. 5 there will be a cooking demonstration preparing “the poor man’s truffle risotto” at Accent By The Sea, 39132 Ocean Drive in Gualala at 1:30 p.m. It’s free. Later that day from 3 to 6 p.m.Studio 391 at 39102 Ocean Drive in Gualalawill hold an artists reception for an art show in which the mushroom is captured inh all its glory. There will be mushroom hors’doeuvres and wines from Handley Cellars. Another art reception will go from 4 to 7 p.m. at Spindrift Gallery at 39120 Ocean Drive in Gualala where live music will accompany the mushroom treats.

On Nov. 11 Elk gets into the spirit of the celebration with a Bed & Breakfast inn tour of five lodgings from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $35 in advance by calling Griffin Inn at 877.3422.

Trinks Cafe in Gualala is making a special mushroom inspired dinner beginning at 5:15 p.m. on Nov. 11. The cafe is at 39140 S. Coast Highway 1 and to make reservations call 884-1713.

And finally on Nov. 12 the Black Point Grill at Sea Ranch Lodge in Sea Ranch is holding a Corks 4 Caps nfour course tasting menu featuring mushrooms and Mendocino County wines. It costs $75 per person and reservations can be made by calling 785-2371.
