Overview: While most surf shops are short-lived businesses near the beach, Northern Lights has held its own in Bodega, a few miles inland and doe it successfully for 26 years. “That’s because we don’t just sell tourist stuff, we sell real surfing items,” said manager Sarah Molica. “the tourists liven things up in the summer, but in the fall and winter the waves are better and the serious surfers keep us going.”

 

What you’ll find: If you need it for surfing, you will find it here. Board shaper Ed Barbera, who worked for years in Santa Cruz and Hawaii, shapes custom boards in his back workroom at the shop. “We lured him up here about seven years ago,” Molica bragged.

For the month of Dec. all new boards in stock will; be on sale for $100 off the regular price.

 

For gift shopping for the non-surfer they have enormously popular Northern Light hooded sweatshirts that are extra thick and winter “beach worthy.” They also carry a line of feathered jewelry.
