Soldiers Stories: told and sung
Occidental Center for the Arts is hosting Soldiers Stories, a special acoustic concert of Americana songs and stories in the words of veterans and their families. It happens Thursday, Nov. 10 at 8 p.m.( the day before Veteran’s Day). The performers are bluegrass music all-stars. Nell Robinson is a regular vocalist on the radio show Prairie Home Companion and is touring the country seeking to raise conciousness about veterans’ issues. Her string band includes two time Grammy winner and flat pick guitar champion Jim Nunally, string virtuosos Joe Craven and Keith Little on mandoline and fiddle, and Chuck Ervin on string bass.
Steve Baker, manager of the Freight and Salvage Coffeehouse, has said, “The Soldiers Stories music has a rare authenticity…This is a real and thoughtful tribute to veterans.”
The tickets are $10 to $15 on a sliding scale. Refreshments, including wine and beer, will be sold. The center is at 4008 Bohemian Highway at Harmony Village (former Harmony School site) and it is wheelchair accessible. Call 874-9392 for tickets or go to www.brownpapertickets.com.
