The Rose and Thorn west of Sebastopol is open for the season. But last month as owner Carole Coler-Dark was getting the store ready, some customers weren’t willing to wait.

Seeing her at work in the gardens,they came on in to picnic and admire her exotic chickens.

Coler-Dark says she is “on a constant treasure hunt” as she chases down local artists and combs the Internet for things for her house and garden shop. Later in the season she will offer plants and garden furniture.

Customers can browse the treasures from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., picnic among the chickens and explore her lovely gardens.
