Halloween Night Tradition Continues in Bodega Bay

Friday, October 22nd, 2010 | Posted by | no responses

Although there will not be a Halloween Carnival at the Grange Hall this year,  (see story below) the children of Bodega Bay will still have a happy Halloween night.

A tradition of many years will carry on with the help of the Bodega Bay Firefighters Association: that of receiving two-dollar bills wrapped around candy bars like Tommy Burke used to give trick-or-treaters coming to his door.

With the permission of the family of Tommy, the retired commercial fisherman who passed away this August at the age of  85, children will receive this special treat at the firehouse on Halloween nights from now on.

Jim Leavy, speaking for the BB Firefighters Association, said that they wanted to be sure the tradition continued.

“Some of our people remember when they were kids being driven up the long driveway to Tommy’s and getting that Payday bar with the bill wrapped around it,” he explained.

The firehouse is just below Tommy’s house, sharing the same driveway, and the welcome lights will be on for the kids.
